Talking Rubbish - the Newsletter of Campbeltown Wastewatchers (in PDF, Portable Document Format) Newsprint is collected from community recycling banks & kerbside-recycling collections to produce shredded newsprint bedding. Many Argyll farms now use paper bedding, saving hundreds of tonnes of newsprint from landfill. Square baled paper bedding £1.82 per bale Campbeltown Wastewatchers Ltd also recycle textiles, drinks cans, plastic milk and soft drinks bottles, and provide confidential shredding services for local businesses. Over 76 tonnes of textiles were recycled by Campbeltown Wastewatchers in the 12 months to July 2003. Funding for the development of these projects has come from the Community Fund (formerly known as the National Lottery Charities Board), the European Regional Development Fund, the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation & the Landfill Tax Rebate Scheme. Since the projects started in 1998 hundreds of tonnes of waste have been removed annually from the waste stream to produce income, rather than landfilled which costs the taxpayer.
